Each of these eight Ocala homes had one container and one photo. They are single photo jobs from All Waste Dumpsters, the everyday residential rentals that fill most of our week: a garage clean out here, a remodel there, a whole house emptied after a move or an estate sale.
Each photo shows where the container sat and how full it got. That is usually what people want to see before they call. The sizes run from 10 yard boxes in a driveway and under live oaks to 25 yard containers at a house clean out and a small horse property, and two of the loads came back over the line. Most of these homeowners had never rented a dumpster before. They all asked some version of the same three questions: what size do I need, where does it go, and how full is too full? A 10 yard for a single room or a yard cleanup, and a 20 or 25 yard for a remodel or a full house. The ranch home in the first photo below had a 10 yard in the driveway, loaded with black contractor bags, and it held everything with room to spare.
The same size worked across town in a leafy backyard, where the box sat on a bed of fallen leaves beside a wood privacy fence, filled with old furniture parts and household junk. Small boxes are easier to place. They fit between trees and down narrow drives where a bigger container never would.
Bigger jobs need bigger boxes. The 20 yard at the white stucco home at the top of this page sat on the lawn, well off the house, for a remodel that was still in progress. Where does the dumpster go at a house?

Wherever the truck can reach and the ground can hold it. That usually means the driveway, but lawns, side yards and shady back lots all work when they are firm and dry.
On concrete or asphalt we set wood blocks under the rails, and you can see one under the front corner of the 25 yard in the first photo here. The blocks spread the weight so the steel does not scrape or crack the slab. That family was emptying a house, and a sofa, boxes and bags went in while a ladder still leaned against the garage.
On grass, the risk is ruts. The second photo shows a 20 yard set on a sandy strip under old oaks, with the rails kept clear of the roots. Look up before delivery day, too. What happens if you overfill a dumpster?

We cannot haul it until the extra comes off. Both of these Ocala loads went past the line, and some of each one had to come out before the truck could take it.
The first was a home clean out on a big grassy lot. Lumber, drywall and broken framing were stacked well above the rail, and a recliner sat on the grass next to the box because there was nowhere left to put it. The second held wire fencing, scrap wood and bagged junk, with the fencing sticking up past the side rail.
Why it matters: a load has to be secured for the drive to the landfill, and anything above the rail can blow or bounce onto the road. Weight is the other limit. Heavy debris can pass the included tonnage, and the extra is billed per ton. If you think you will run out of room, call before the box is full. Can you deliver a dumpster to a home on acreage?
Yes. Plenty of Ocala homes sit on a few acres, and the box goes wherever the ground is firm and the truck has a clear path in. At this property the 25 yard sat on grass under two big oaks, with a board fence, open pasture and a barn behind it.
Acreage brings its own questions. Long dirt drives go soft after rain. Gates need to be wide enough for the truck, which is wider than most pickups pulling a trailer. Yards and pastures often hide irrigation lines or a septic drain field somewhere under the grass, and neither one should carry a loaded roll off, so tell us where they are before we arrive.
Shade helps. A steel box that sits in full sun all week gets hot to the touch, and anybody loading it in July will notice. Setting it under the trees, like here, makes the work more bearable.
