Commercial jobs work differently from home jobs. The loads are bulkier, the sites are busier, and somebody is usually waiting on the truck. These four drop offs from All Waste Dumpsters cover a paver yard and a steel building in Belleview, a new home under construction in Ocala, and an open field in Lady Lake.
Two were 25 yard containers and two were 20 yard. All four went out on the same hook lift trucks we run from our yard on NW 95th Street in Ocala, and all four came back full. Every one of these customers needed the box close to the work but out of the way of equipment, deliveries and customers. A box in the wrong spot on a busy site usually has to be moved, and moving a loaded container means another trip for the truck. What size dumpster does a commercial job site need?
Usually a 20 or 25 yard. Commercial debris comes in faster and bulkier than household junk, and a bigger box means fewer swaps while the job is running.
The Belleview paver yard at the top of this page filled a 25 yard with broken pallets, plywood, cardboard and wrap from the stone deliveries stacked behind it. That kind of load is all volume. It stacks badly and fills space fast, which is why the box was level with the rail when our truck backed in with the hook arm already up to pull it.
Metal is different. The 25 yard under the steel overhang shown here, also in Belleview, held sheet metal, pipe, bent roof panels and scrap parts. Scrap is heavy for its size and rarely lies flat, so long pieces end up angled across the top. We ask about weight whenever a job is mostly metal or concrete. Where does the dumpster go on a new construction lot in Ocala?
Close to the house, on ground the concrete trucks and framers are not using. On this Ocala build the 20 yard sat on bare sand off the front of the house, which was wrapped and waiting on siding, with pines around the edge of the lot.
New construction lots are all sand and no driveway, so access is the whole question. The box has to stay reachable for swaps through framing, roofing and drywall, and it cannot block the path the lumber and block deliveries use. We usually set it off a corner of the pad where a truck can back in straight. Loose sand is fine in dry weather. After a hard rain it can bury a loaded truck's tires, and that is when we may need to wait for the ground to firm up.

Can you place a dumpster in an open field in Lady Lake?
Yes, as long as the ground is dry and the truck has a clear way in. This 20 yard sat on pasture grass along a black four board fence. Old lumber, mostly.
Lady Lake sits just over the line in Lake County, and a lot of the land around it is still open farm ground. Fields like this look easy, but pasture grass hides soft spots, low areas that hold water after a storm, and sometimes buried irrigation lines. When we can, we drive the path before we set the box. Keeping it along the fence line, the way this customer did, puts it out of the way of mowers and animals and makes it easy to find again on pickup day.
